General Membership Meetings
General Membership Meetings are held every 2nd Wednesday
of the month. Teleconference is available. Members may
contact their Regional Vice-President or check the AFGE Local
918 Members-Only Bulletin Board for teleconference
information.

Members Only Discussion Forum
New Bulletin Board: Dues paying members may register for our
new bulletin board now hosted on our website. Visit
www.afgelocal918.org/board or click the link at left. The Bulletin
Board is open to dues-paying members only and access will
be verified at registration. Our old Forum shall remain open for
the meantime as described below.

AFGE Local 918 maintains a private members-only discussion
forum online at a secure website. Dues-paying members who
wish to access the forum must contact their Regional
Vice-President or Shop Steward for access instructions and
authorization.

AFGE LOCAL 918 IS SEEKING QUALIFIED MEMBERS TO FILL VACANT UNION POSITIONS
AFGE Local 918-FPS is seeking members to serve as Shop
Stewards within their assigned office or a specific geographic
location to which they are assigned. Interested and qualified
members are requested to contact their Regional
Vice-President and  
Local 918 President David Wright for
additional information and to express interest in the position. be
made in accordance with the Local's Constitution and Bylaws
and are subject to approval by the Executive Board. Shop
Steward vacancies may not be available in all locations.

Qualifications:
- Be a member in good standing of AFGE Local 918;
- Be an FPS bargaining unit employee regardless of duty
position;
- Be proactive with a strong desire and willingness to perform
the duties of the position;
- Be nominated by their respective Regional Vice-President and
approved by the Executive Board.  

Duties:
Stewards shall be responsible for implementing Local policy
and all collective bargaining agreements, and managing the
grievance apparatus at the area or unit level to which assigned.
They shall handle all grievances initially unless otherwise
assumed by the Regional Vice-President. They shall be
responsible for communicating Local announcements to their
respective unit members, and for collecting and transmitting
relevant information to their Regional Vice-President. They shall
keep their respective Regional Vice-President fully informed of
their activities; they shall attend all regular and special general
membership meetings unless excused by their Regional
Vice-President or the President; and they shall perform such
other duties as assigned by the President or Regional
Vice-President.

Duties:
Local Women’s Coordinator (LWC) is primarily concerned with
any issue that has an adverse impact on women in the
workforce. The main objective of the LWC is to assure that the
agency maintains policies and practices, which are free from
artificial barriers to the progress of women. Duties of the LWC
include submitting proposals and recommendation with the
consent of the Executive Board to the agency to adopt policies
and programs within the agency. Among the areas of concern
are childcare, gender-based wage discrimination, sexual
harassment, alternate work schedules, upward mobility, career
development, family friendly leave policies, health and safety
matters, and leadership skills development. The above issues
are but a few that may be addressed by the Coordinator. All
actions to resolve issues may require the LWC to pursue
solutions within the agency, through and with the consent of the
Executive Board, or seek legislative solutions through and with
the consent of the Executive Board. The LWC will stress the
importance of organizing members around these issues and
will assist in the recruitment of new members. The LWC will
work together with AFGE National, district, council, and Local
officers to effectively work toward eliminating issues that have
an adverse impact on women in the workplace
